General:

The LC1 Sling Chair, created in 1928 by Le Corbusier Pierre Jeanneret,and Charlotte Perriand, is a iconic chair  that is now included in the design collection of the Museum of Modern Art.  These three architects who were forerunners of the International Style and created the LC1 so that it tilits and adjusts as the user shifts from one sitting position to the next for continuous support.

A few additional items about the Sling chair with steel frame include:

-Cassina in Italy holds the exclusive worldwide license from the Le Corbusier Foundation.

-The Basculant chair was included at the Equipment for the Home art installation of the Salon d' Automne (Autumn Salon) exhibition in Paris,  in 1929.

The Thonet furniture company began production of the Sling Chair in the 1930's until it was taken up by the Embru company of Switzerland. In 1959, the LC1 was re-introduced by Heidi Weber (a Zurich museum owner )

Currently the Le Corbusier foundation authorizes Cassina S.p.A of Milan, Italy as the sole manufacturer of the LC1. Reproductions by other manufacturers of the Sling Chair are also common and we discuss some of their details below.
