In conjunction with contemporary furniture fair Salone Internazionale del Mobile
in Milan, April 16-21, the firm will celebrate 80 years with the
retrospective exhibit "Made in Cassina," on view through September 7.
Starting by the brothers Cesare and Umberto Cassina in 1927 in Northern Italy. From this modest start the firm is now one of
the most exclusive sources for contemporary Italian design.
In the mid-1950s, Cassina traveled to Paris and obtained the
rights to manufacture Le Corbusier's
collection. With the success of the license, Cassina
embarked upon a larger program, The Cassina Masters Collection,
which today includes work from the major icons of design.
Today the series includes Charlotte
Perriand, Gerrit T. Rietveld, Charles R. Mackintosh, Frank Lloyd
Wright, and Erik Gunnar Asplund.
Cassina SpA was first introduced to the American market in
the early 1960s. In 1994, Cassina expanded its presence in the
US and began selling through its new company, Cassina USA.
